Unlocked Networks
Unlocked Networks
Recently, Verizon announced its plans to unlock their CDMA network to support devices intended for use on its rivals CDMA networks, including phones from Sprint/Nextel. Sprint has also said that it would offer its services to customers with existing compatible equipment. GSM carriers such as T-Mobile and AT&T have always had the ability to use non- proprietary handsets, but the user might not have access to their carrier's entire network offering. If you're hoping for some seamless network of interoperability here, think again. The iPhone will not be available on any CDMA network, the En-V won't work at all on AT&T's service, and the Sidekick won't ever work right on anything but T-Mobile. Upshot- Google growled, and the incumbents are changing their shorts.
